The Associação Wuytack de Pedagogia Musical – AWPM, created in Porto in 1992, is a non-profit pedagogical and cultural association, with the status of Public Utility, whose purpose is to disseminate, in Portugal, the musical-pedagogical principles developed by the Belgian composer and pedagogue Jos Wuytack, personality of worldwide importance in teacher education.
The activities carried out by AWPM cover several complementary areas: pedagogical (training of teachers), editorial (publication of books and CDs), musical and cultural (dynamization of concerts with children and young performers; exchange with other institutions, nationally and internationally) .
Emanating from the ideas of the Orff-Schulwerk (School work by Carl Orff), Wuytack pedagogy is based on principles of activity, creativity, community and wholeness. developing a song elementary, which forms a unity with the word and the movement, aims at the integration of verbal, musical and corporal expressions. It is intended that the child participates in an ensemble music, in which the voice, as a means of expression, par excellence, of the human being, the Orff instruments, in the creation and musical interpretation, and the body, through movement, mime and dance.
