Conscious of the importance of developing music education in Portugal, during the past decade the AWPM has largely completed the principle objectives in the pedagogical, editorial, musical and cultural fields.
  • Contribute to the continuous formation of music teachers, regularly organizing courses for music specialists, community musicians and music students, based on the principles and methods proposed by Jos Wuytack.
  • Edit and propagate supporting materials for music education (books and CD’s) for specific topics (Active Music Listening, vocal and instrumental training, children’s songs with motion, traditional songs), in order to stimulate the professional development of teachers.
  • Stimulate the musical practice of children and young adults, supporting the creation of vocal and instrumental groups of music lovers, and organizing concerts, interpreted by young performers and designated especially for young audiences.
  • Promote the decentralization of national activities, responding to the needs of the musical and pedagogical education in different regions of Portugal, especially where there is little offered.
  • Further the exchange of musical and pedagogical experiences both nationally and internationally, facilitating contacts between students, teachers, specialists, and institutions of music education.
  • Spread out a multicultural perspective of music education, on closer acquaintance of the music of different cultures, and popularizing the Portuguese musical patrimony across the frontiers.
